Senators McCain and Kyl voted “nay” on the passage of H.R. 4851, the Continuing Extension Act of 2010, as amended and engrossed by the Senate. The bill extends, as its title implies, several government programs; including certain unemployment benefits, the poverty guidelines, flood insurance programs and so-forth.
Interesting is Section 11 of the bill which gives the “SENSE OF THE SENATE REGARDING A VALUE ADDED TAX,” which is:
It is the sense of the Senate that the Value Added Tax is a massive tax increase that will cripple families on fixed income and only further push back America’s economic recovery and the Senate opposes a Value Added Tax.
House Speaker Pelosi has been advocating this European-style of taxation as a means to pay for the health care plan that the country cannot afford.
