Protesters of SB 1070 promote illegal activity.

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.—Winston Churchill

The Senate of Arizona took the “illegal” in “illegal alien” seriously. There are laws against entering this country illegally and Arizona took steps to enforce the federal statutes, which is their obligation. The Arizona legislature, led by Senator Russell Pearce, took steps to do just that.

What SB 1070 really does is allows an officer to ask citizenship of an individual if he has reasonable cause to suspect an individual during a routine traffic stop or encounter. It does not make them hunters. It does not say anywhere in the bill that “Hispanics” will be questioned, as they would have you believe. Officers can ask Arabs, Germans or anyone with a British or Irish accent about their citizenship. It only gives officers in Arizona the ability to enforce laws already on the books.

Young Republicans

Received in the e-mail…

I recently asked my friends’ little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be President some day. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, “If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?”

She replied, “I’d give food and houses to all the homeless people.” Her parents beamed.

“Wow…what a worthy goal.” I told her, “But you don’t have to wait until you’re President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and rake my yard, and I’ll pay you $50.

Then I’ll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guys hang out, and you can give them the $50 to use toward food and a new house.”

She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, “Why don’t the homeless guys come over and do the work, and you can just pay them the $50?”

I shook her hand and said, “Welcome to the Republican Party.”

…Her parents still aren’t speaking to me.

Arizonans favor SB 1070

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Arizona Senator Russell Pearce

While the news media in Phoenix is pushing the groups protesting the “rights” of illegals to break the law in Arizona, a recent Rasmussen Reports poll shows that Arizonans overwhelmingly favor the new legislation. SB 1070 was submitted by Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce who commented that the legislation was drafted after reviewing several Supreme Court decisions on the matter. He expects legal opposition, but expects to win.

The Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that 70% of likely voters in Arizona approve of the legislation, while just 23% oppose it.
