Chicago proves gun laws.

The AP reported yesterday:

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn says he won’t send National Guard troops to quell Chicago street violence unless Mayor Richard Daley wants them.

Daley said Monday that a call by two Illinois lawmakers to bring in the National Guard was “something to think about.”

Democratic state Reps. John Fritchey and LaShawn Ford want Quinn to order troops to Chicago because of recent violence, including one night when seven people were killed.

Daley and Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis (wees) say a key to ending violence is getting guns off the street. Weis says he doubts the National Guard is the answer.

As of midnight Sunday, the city had 113 homicides this year. There were 109 homicides from January to April last year and 134 during the same period in 2008.

WGN-TV reports that Mayor Richard Daley is cold to the call for troops, but is, “…open to ideas on how to fight crime.”

The Middle Class Guy blog suggests, “he way to stop the violence is a total crack down on gangs and drug dealers. A harsh, brutal, zero tolerance policy. A crack down by the city and the Feds. Along with that, the media must cooperate. The police must give the media the addresses of the gang leaders and the major dealers, along with photographs. Their faces, their homes, even their families must be plastered every day from the front pages.”

Suggesting a drug offender registration web site?

The blog continues, “The cowards, Father Phleger, Jesse Jackson, and the other professional protesters must march on the homes of the drug dealers and gang leaders.”

“It is not hard to get rid of the gangs and dope dealers. It takes guts. It takes action. It takes leadership. All these things are lacking in this city,” the blog further complains.

It is interesting that Daley is calling for more gun control while the Middle Class Guy is calling for war. You really can’t have one without the other. There is one man who displayed some courage and leadership in Chicago. Now Otis McDonald has had to defend his right to defend himself in the Supreme Court as Heller did last year.

Of course, even if McDonald wins, we have to remember that weak minds think alike. Washington D.C. abandoned their total ban on hand gun effort. They just made the process so costly and tedious that most people will give up. And, of course, if you ever actually defend your life or the life of a family member, you’ll probably spend at least three-months in jail waiting for your “speedy trial.” Chicago will do the same.

Interestingly, this is the same situation Chicago faced which led to the National Firearms Act which began the outlawing of the Second Amendment. You might remember that the police, mostly on the take, did not avail themselves of the firepower that the mob used (the infamous Thompson sub-machine gun). It’s in all of the Hollywood movies.

As for ideas about crime? Oh, I don’t know. How about taking McDonald as an example? As a junkie or criminal approaches your home, you might want him to consider that you live in a city that approves of its citizens defending themselves and not being required to run out the back door. Perhaps a criminal would think twice about robbing you with the possibility of a .45 under your jacket or in your purse. I don’t know. Maybe make the criminal afraid for once?

Self-defense is not a crime.
