SB 1070 Already Paying Dividends in Arizona!

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Contrary to the ominous warnings issued by naysayers and others who are opposed to the rule of law, Arizona’s freshly minted SB 1070 is already paying dividends.

As reported, in part, at the Washington Post , the government of Mexico has actually issued a travel advisory concerning travel to Arizona:

“MEXICO CITY – Mexico’s government is warning its citizens about travel to Arizona because of a tough new immigration law there.

“The travel alert from the Foreign Relations Department urges Mexicans in Arizona to ‘act with prudence and respect the framework of local laws.’

“It says that the law’s passage shows ‘an adverse political atmosphere for migrant communities and for all Mexican visitors.’”

Hooray for SB 1070!

Mexico’s illegals laws tougher than Arizona’s

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Mexican President Felipe Calderon denounced as “racial discrimination” an Arizona law giving state and local police the authority to arrest suspected illegal immigrants and vowed to use all means at his disposal to defend Mexican nationals against a law he called a “violation of human rights.”

But the legislation, signed April 23 by Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, is similar to Reglamento de la Ley General de Poblacion — the General Law on Population enacted in Mexico in April 2000, which mandates that federal, local and municipal police cooperate with federal immigration authorities in that country in the arrests of illegal immigrants.

Under the Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony, punishable by up to two years in prison. Immigrants who are deported and attempt to re-enter can be imprisoned for 10 years. Visa violators can be sentenced to six-year terms. Mexicans who help illegal immigrants are considered criminals.

The law also says Mexico can deport foreigners who are deemed detrimental to “economic or national interests,” violate Mexican law, are not “physically or mentally healthy” or lack the “necessary funds for their sustenance” and for their dependents.

Immigration follow-up addresses issues

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

BY REP. Russ Jones

The recently signed immigration law (SB 1070), which goes into effect July 29 of this year, has received a considerable amount of negative coverage in the local and national media. I’d like to dispel the rumors and provide the back-story on how the Legislature came to support SB 1070 and the following “trailer bill” in HB 2162.

Most of my colleagues and the media were surprised when I voted in support of SB 1070 on the House of Representatives floor and did not offer my amendment even though I had the votes for it. I voted for SB 1070 due to a promise made to me by state Sen. Russell Pearce that he would work with me on a trailer bill with modifications to the law that I felt were critical. HB 2162 addressed these concerns and we passed this legislation several days later with the governor signing it the very next day.

Welcome John and Ken

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Click here to listen to John and Ken from 2 pm to 7 pm

John and Ken have decided to boycott the Arizona boycott and broadcast from Phoenix. Welcome to Arizona. They’ve even started a We Heart Arizona page.

Welcome to those around the country who are visiting Arizona because of the boycott. Don’t forget, though, that Phoenix is not necessarily Arizona. Check out Tuscon, the OK corral at Tombstone, the Territorial Prison and July 4th river run in Yuma, the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona and so on. If you go to Phoenix, take in a Diamondbacks or Arizona Rattlers game.

All of the pundits, including the Arizona Republic, are crying about Arizona’s new law while boisterously crying that immigration reform is necessary. They do not like to show the darker images of the illegal immigration protesters.

What is wrong with Arizona’s “immigration reform?” It might put an illegal in jail. What do the pundits mean by “immigration reform?”
