Americans don’t seem too thrilled the Obama administration is suing Arizona over its controversial anti-illegal immigration law.
Fifty percent oppose the lawsuit, compared to just 33% who support it, according to a new Gallup poll.
The poll also finds a high level of opposition (64%) among those people who say they are following the new law closely.
The Department of Justice filed its lawsuit Tuesday.
The law, which is scheduled to take effect July 29, gives the police the right to question a suspect’s immigration status if there is “reasonable suspicion” the person has entered the U.S. illegally.
If the poll findings aren’t bad enough for opponents of SB 1070, an Associated Press report says Americans across the country have been donating money to Arizona to help them fight the legal battle.
