While Harry Reid’s popularity is plumetting in Nevada, his Son Rory Reid appears to be fighting to maintain his hold on the Governor’s office.
NEVADA—In addition to becoming competitive in his bid for reelection in Nevada, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is now nearly tied with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi when it comes to unpopularity among voters nationwide.
A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters across the country finds that 56% have at least a somewhat unfavorable opinion of Reid, while 59% feel the same way about Pelosi.
The good news for Reid that these figures include 47% with a Very Unfavorable opinion of Pelosi, while just 38% hold a Very Unfavorable opinion of him.
In the Nevada gubenatorial race, Republican Brian Sandoval continues to hold a double digit lead over Democrat Rory Reid in Nevada’s gubernatorial election, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters.
Sandoval now picks up 52% support from Nevada voters, while Reid picks up 36% of the vote. Just three percent (3%) would prefer some other candidate, while another eight percent (8%) are undecided.
Last month the GOP candidate and former judge held a 50% to 40% edge over Reid. Earlier polling had shown Sandoval with a bigger lead. Since early March, support for Sandoval has remained in the range of 50% to 57%. In that same period, Reid has picked up 31% to 40% of the vote.
According to the Reno Gazette, Sandoval declined to speak at the Nevada Insurance Council in Reno, so Reid brought a cardboard cutout which drew a few laughs.
“I know it (cardboard cutout) is not much, but it’s all I can do,” Reid said when Sandoval’s smiling image was placed next to him. “Maybe this will help you and help me and help the people of Nevada have more debates, particularly in Northern Nevada.”
“This is right out of campaign textbook 101,” said Eric Herzik, a political science professor at the University of Nevada, Reno and registered Republican. “If I am up by 16 points, I really don’t want to give a stage to my opponent.”
A Las Vegas Review-Journal/KLAS-TV poll shows Sandoval with a 16-point lead over the incumbent.
