Imagine using the same technology to locate a lone bomber before he carries out his terrorist act and to identify a troubled veteran or first responder ground down by tragedies and violence.
Perceptions of liberal bias still far outnumber perceptions of conservative bias
Lower-income Americans and those with less education are generally more likely to trust the media than are those with higher incomes and more education.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — For the fourth straight year, the majority of Americans say they have little or no trust in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately, and fairly. The 57% who now say this is a record high by one percentage point.
The 43% of Americans who, in Gallup’s annual Governance poll, conducted Sept. 13-16, 2010, express a great deal or fair amount of trust ties the record low, and is far worse than three prior Gallup readings on this measure from the 1970s.
Trust in the media is now slightly higher than the record-low trust in the legislative branch but lower than trust in the executive and judicial branches of government, even though trust in all three branches is down sharply this year. These findings also further confirm a separate Gallup poll that found little confidence in newspapers and television specifically.
For the first time in its three-year history, the First Things First organization is running TV ads promoting what it does.
But the executive director of the state agency said the decision to spend more than $600,000 in tax dollars for the commercials has nothing to do with the fact that voters will decide in November whether to keep the program alive. Rhiann Allvin said state law makes “public information about the importance of early childhood development and health” one of the goals for the Arizona Early Childhood Development and Health Board, the formal name for the state agency.
And the timing? Allvin said it is unrelated to the fact that lawmakers voted earlier this year to put the existence of First Things Vote on the ballot.
COCONINO COUNTY–At their Regular meeting on September 21, the Coconino County Board of Supervisors elected a new Chair, District 4 Supervisor Mandy Metzger, and a new Vice Chair, District 1 Supervisor Carl Taylor. Supervisor Metzger replaces outgoing Chair Liz Archuleta, who represents District 2.
“I am honored to serve our County as Chair of the Board and thank my fellow Supervisors for their vote of confidence in me,” said Metzger. “We have a spectacularly beautiful county full of smart and resilient people. We have dedicated elected officials, and employees who are devoted to our residents. With all this, I am confident we will find creative, innovative ways to get through these tough economic times. I look forward to the challenge.”
Chihuahua, Chihuahua – Early this morning, a commando unit attacked an installation belonging to the Chihuahua Public Security Police and took away dozens of government firearms.
The agency confirmed the raid on its command center but cannot confirm the number of rifles and pistols taken from the armory.
Unofficial reports are that at least 20 masked men surrounded the facility, threatened the guards and ransacked the offices where State Police weapons are stored.
It is unknown whether documents or computers containing official information were taken.
The installation is guarded by Federal Police. All personnel found in the building were deposed by the Attorney General’s Office.
UPDATE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO A SCHEDULING CONFLICT. IT WILL BE SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEK.
The next meeting of the Western Coconino Tea Party will be Friday, October 1 at the American Legion Hall on Grant Street from 6:30 to 9 pm. Topic of discussion will be the ten propositions we will be voting on November 2nd. If you can provide a food item or beverage, it would be appreciated.
Governor Jan Brewer will attend an event at Little America on October 15 from 5 to 7 pm. I am informed that this is not a fundraiser. This event is apparently sponsored by the Coconino County GOP and there does not appear to be a cover charge.
The Federal Reserve Bank Is Switching Gears from Protecting Against Inflation to Protecting Against Deflation
The deflationary pressures that Robert Prechter first forecast back in 2002 in his best-seller Conquer the Crash are becoming more and more pronounced.
A Sept. 21 piece on MarketWatch reports, “The Federal Reserve on Tuesday warned it was concerned about the potential outbreak of deflation, laying the groundwork for buying government bonds at future meetings.”
Of course, in trademark form, the Federal Reserve’s comments about deflation were less specific:
“Measures of underlying inflation are currently at levels somewhat below those the Committee judges most consistent, over the longer run, with its mandate to promote maximum employment and price stability,” the statement said.
While skillfully avoiding the use of the term, the Fed was sending an unmistakable message that its gearing up to fight the deflation threat.
Translation: Watch out, below! Here comes more quantitative easing, which means the Fed will create more money on its books and start buying up banks’ bad loans in exchange for more money to lend.
You can see the candidates for Senator in a debate on Sunday at 6 pm on 3TV. Do yourself a favor and actually listen to the alternates to the Democratic and Republican candidates before you make your decision in November. Most of all, don’t let this election go the way of the Jan Brewer tax hike. Get out and vote.
TUCSON, Ariz. — National Guard troops working at an observatory post near the Mexican border were forced to flee after being approached by a group of armed individuals, authorities said.
The event occurred about 11 p.m. Wednesday at one of the National Guard entrance identification team posts near Sasabe, said National Guard Sgt. Edward Balaban.
He said the troops withdrew safely, no shots were fired and no one suffered injuries.
U.S. Border Patrol officials are investigating the incident and trying to determine who the armed people were, what they were doing and why they approached the post before retreating to Mexico.
The incident occurred in the west desert corridor between Nogales and Lukeville in the vicinity of Sasabe, Balaban said.
“We don’t know exactly how many because obviously it took place in the dark,” Balaban said. “Nobody was able to get an accurate count.”
The Guard troops are not allowed to apprehend illegal entrants.
“We don’t know if this was a matter of somebody coming up accidentally on the individuals, coming up intentionally on the individuals, or some sort of a diversion,” said Rob Daniels, spokesman for the Border Patrol’s Tucson Sector.
What may be lost in all of the hoopla concerning Mexican Independence Day and “Patriot Day,” is a holiday little celebrated by the media. September 17th is Constitution Day. Constitution Week runs from the 17th to the 23rd of September. Obama even—probably grudgingly—prepared a proclamation for the day. One can only wonder if he has read it.
On this day, you have free access to the National Constitution Center web doin’s. Of course, we have the whole Constitution on this site as well as the amendments. So between your bite of burrito and mouthful of beans, this weekend, we recommend reading the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Stop being embarrassed for being an American. Learn the law of the land and how your Congress—Republican and Democrat—are supposed to work.
It is the perfect time since it is just before the election cycle. Read the Constitution and if your Congressman or Governor hasn’t, vote them out of office. I advise that you do not get twisted in the Matrix, though. Look over all of the options. Look at the Libertarian candidate web sites or the Green Party web site, or whatever. Do your research. Look at how your Republican candidates voted. Probably very nearly the same as the Democratic candidates. Read the Constitution and let them know that you did by how you vote.
