In another example of children being considered potential terrorists, a Massachusetts teacher sent home a note to each parent of her sixth-grade class banning all pencils and pens from school including the student’s person, backpack, and on the bus citing that they could be used in “weapon making”.
The letter read:
students would no longer be allowed to bring writing implements to school. It said pencils would be provided for students in class and any students caught with pencils or pens after Nov. 15 would face disciplinary action for having materials “to build weapons.”

2 MCSO detention officers accused of assaulting inmates

Meanwhile, those who speak out against all this are marginalized, vilified, and silenced. My website, Atlas Shrugs.com, has just been banned from Veterans Administration computers, along with my colleague Robert Spencer’s JihadWatch.org. Both were banned for giving voice to “controversial opinions.”
I wonder how veterans feel about that. Fighting jihad is controversial? So what are our soldiers doing in Afghanistan and Iraq? It’s a real head-scratcher.
The turkey being served up last Thursday by the ruling elite was the American people. Because she was wearing a panty liner that obscured the screener’s view of her genitals, a TSA official subjected a menstruating woman to a fondling “so invasive that I was left crying and dealing with memories that I thought had been dealt with years ago of prior sexual assaults.”

Mexico Asks U.S. To Stop Deporting Serious Criminals
Monday, November 29th, 2010In a flabbergasting request, a coalition of Mexican lawmakers has asked the United States to stop deporting illegal immigrants who have been convicted of serious crimes in American courts.
The preposterous demand was made at a recent southern California conference in which the mayors of four Mexican cities that border the U.S. gathered to discuss cross-border issues. The only American mayor who attended the biannual event was San Diego’s Jerry Sanders, evidently because his city hosted it this year at a fancy downtown hotel.

US cable TV bleeds subscribers as online grows
Monday, November 29th, 2010November 28, 2010 by Chris Lefkow
The economic downturn has US cable television companies shedding subscribers in record numbers and Americans increasingly “cutting the cord” in favor of cheaper online options, new research shows.
The findings point to a growing pool of potential customers for online services such as Hulu and Netflix and newcomers like Apple TV and Google TV, which offer lower prices and more flexibility, analysts say.
According to research firm SNL Kagan, US cable operators lost 741,000 basic video customers in the third quarter of the year, the biggest decline since it started tracking the segment in 1980.

Congress image not improving according to Rasmussen Reports.

IEA Study Ranks Nations’ Subsidies to Fossil Fuel Consumption
Monday, November 29th, 2010by Scott A. Hodge, The Tax Foundation
Fiscal Fact No. 252
U.S. Governments Offer Little Support to Energy Firms
In advance of the G-20 meeting in Seoul, the International Energy Agency (IEA) released its annual World Energy Outlook, a 738-page analysis of the global energy market. The report discusses the market for various types of energy and summarizes the energy policies of the world’s governments, devoting two chapters to raising the alarm about government subsidies for fossil fuel usage.
Just five months earlier the IEA had published in conjunction with OPEC, the OECD and the World Bank a stand-alone study of governmental subsidies to energy in advance of the G-20 meeting in Toronto. That joint report found that no systematic effort has been undertaken within the last decade to estimate subsidies to fossil-fuel production over a wide range of countries.

Report: Some States to Gain Revenue If Bush Tax Cuts Expire; Others Will Collect Less
Monday, November 29th, 2010Washington, DC, November 19, 2010 - State and local government budgets are in suspense over the expiring Bush tax cuts, according to a new report from the Tax Foundation.
“Most state tax systems are linked to the federal tax system, so earthshaking changes in Washington cause waves downstream in state capitals,” observes Mark Robyn, author of Tax Foundation Special Report, No. 187, “How Would Expiration of Bush-Era Tax Cuts Affect State and Local Budgets?” (Full report at http://www.taxfoundation.org/research/show/26852.html {Requires login}).

Tax cut means tax hike for Arizona
Monday, November 29th, 2010If the taxable value of business property in a given district goes down, the overall tax rate — the figure against which the assessment is multiplied to compute each property owner’s bill — has to go up to raise the same amount of money. That shift means homeowners, whose assessment ratio will not drop, will pay more.
Pierce said there’s nothing unfair about that.
PHOENIX – Republican legislative leaders are crafting plans to shift property taxes now paid by businesses onto the backs of homeowners.
But they say their constituents will understand.
At a forum Friday for business leaders and lobbyists, Senate Majority Whip Steve Pierce, R-Prescott, said he wants to reduce the assessment ratio on business property to 18 percent of its full cash value, down from the current 21 percent. That is the figure used to compute taxes owed by a company.
He also wants changes to reduce what companies owe each year on taxes on business equipment.
“These are unmistakable steps toward making us a business-friendly state instead of where we are right now, which is a reputation of being business unfriendly,” he said.
House Majority Leader Andy Tobin, R-Paulden, said his chamber shares the same goal.

Sunday, November 28th, 2010There is currently a petition drive to Secure the Border or Relocate ALL Congressional Offices There! A group from Arlington, Virginia known as Rally Congress started the petition drive and challenges Congress members to secure the border between the United States and Mexico or to move their offices along the troubled border.
The petition reads, in part:
If you sincerely agree with Secretary Napolitano and President Obama that “the border is secure” then you must immediately relocate all federal offices for all members of Congress (House, Senate, Supreme Court, and all Staffers) from the District of Columbia to the border in Arizona, California, or Texas. Relocation of our federal offices may finally provide the necessary incentive to secure our borders – sense the illegal drug trade, illegal immigrant population, murders, rapes, and other illegal activities have not.
You can sign the petition which generates an email to your members of Congress.

Homeland Security to ditch color-code terrorism alert system ending eight years of mockery
Saturday, November 27th, 2010WASHINGTON – The Department of Homeland Security is junking its color-code terrorism threat alert system after eight years of mockery.
The system, put in place by the Bush White House a few months after the 9/11 attacks, ranged from a safe green to “severe” red warning of imminent attack — but was largely scrapped years ago for confusing the public.
“The goal is to replace a system that communicates nothing with a partnership approach with law enforcement, the private sector and the American public that provides specific, actionable information based on the latest intelligence,” said a senior Homeland Security Department official.
DHS and its Transportation Security Administration have been reeling in controversy since airport screeners began intrusive physical patdowns after Al Qaeda’s Yemen group almost blew up two U.S.-bound cargo planes last month with bombs disguised as printer toner cartridges.

Saturday, November 27th, 2010President Obama gets stitches, but he’s not the only President to get banged up in office
You’re not alone President Obama.
The President’s busted lip from an errant elbow during a basketball game Friday was just the latest scrape suffered by a commander in chief.
As recent history shows, bruised egos aren’t the only injuries presidents suffer.
Former President Gerald Ford was notorious for his slips and trips, which were immortalized by comedian Chevy Chase on “Saturday Night Live.” He once took a tumble down the steps off Air Force One in 1975 in Salzburg, Austria.

TSA shut down some scanners on National Opt-Out Day
Friday, November 26th, 2010by Chris Hinyub
Fri, Nov 26th 2010
Reports abound that the Transportation Security Administration deactivated a number of its controversial Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) machines throughout the country on Wednesday. Passengers from California’s LAX reported that the backscatter X-ray machines were “all roped off.” The phenomenon coincided with National Opt-Out Day, a grassroots-driven protest against naked body scanners and intrusive pat downs at airport security checkpoints.
While it cannot be confirmed how many body scanners were turned off at the California airport, it is clear that wherever the news cameras went, hungrily awaiting a protest scene, the scanners were simply deactivated. This begs the rather serious question: Is the TSA more concerned with its PR image than its duties? What’s most perplexing is how government officials can claim that the body scanners are critical to airline safety if on the busiest travel day of the year so many can go unused without incident.
“Shutting down the ‘National Opt-Out Day’ by turning off the machines is the only logical move for the TSA,” writes Mike Adams of Natural News.

Point of Law adds: You’ll see a lot of press about how noone opted out; the TSA Twitter account is retweeting like mad all the people happy about how quickly the lines went Wednesday. A closer review reveals that the the TSA turned off many backscatter machines—there was no need to opt out, so no one opted out. It goes very far to demonstrate how unnecessary these machines are: if the machines were really critical for safety, rather than for public relations, then one hopes TSA wouldn’t play with our safety so. But when push came to shove, the TSA was more concerned about the threat to its illusion of security theater than it was about the threat of an attack by terrorists. If every day were Opt-Out Day, the TSA would turn the machines off permanently. More at the TSA Abuse Blog.
