Senate Bill S. 91 defines life at conception

S. 91 and companion House legislation H. 374 to the 112th Congress would provide 14th Amendment protection to the pre-born.

Republican Senator Roger F. Wicker of Mississippi and Republican Representative Duncan D. Hunter of California have submitted legislation with identical language that would provide “…equal protection under the 14th article of amendment to the Constitution for the right to life of each born and preborn human person.”

The bill cites the power of Congress granted under Article I, Section 8, the last clause which states, “To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof” as the authority for the bill.

Liberals will probably be quick to point out that no where in Section 8 of Article I does it give Congress the duty or right to protect the unborn. Pete Singer is reported to have expressed the belief that killing babies up to about twenty-weeks should be legal.

This is from a lack of understanding that the Constitution was intended to ensure the natural rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness expressed in the Declaration of Independence. Thus it does fall into the category of “…all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States,…”

The bill defines Humans as, “(1) HUMAN PERSON; HUMAN BEING- The terms ‘human person’ and ‘human being’ include each and every member of the species homo sapiens at all stages of life, including, but not limited to, the moment of fertilization, cloning, and other moment at which an individual member of the human species comes into being.”

The bill would effectively outlaw abortion.

My husband and I are overjoyed that there are still God-fearing people in Congress who are willing to stand up for the unborn. I cannot count the number of years that I have been praying that Roe v. Wade would be overturned, often in the face of dear friends who told me I was foolish for doing so. Well, I’m a realist and realize it might not happen now but at least the foundation is being laid for the overturn of this horrible piece of legislation. God never blessed me with a baby or babies of my own, but He did bless me with 4 wonderful step-children, 4 wonderful step-grandchildren and now, so far, 7 wonderful great grandchildren through marriage to my husband of 17 years. I can’t imagine life without anyone of these precious souls. I will redouble my efforts for this cause and will begin today praying for the courageous senators and representatives who are sponsoring this legislation. God bless, Joann Goldsborough

What is sad about the whole affair is that the Congress would have to legislate the guarantees under the Declaration of Independence. The Constitution was instituted to guarantee the right of the Declaration and prevent the grievances that were outlined in the document.

What I don’t understand is how people can wholeheartedly say that if a woman is raped, at risk of disease or death if she were to give birth, or at an age or in a condition where the child would not be properly cared for, that she should still give birth to the child instead of having an abortion. If it were made illegal, there would be a ridiculous amount of more children up for adoption, without homes. Also, back-alley abortions would reinstate and more women would be hurt and killed in an attempt to rid themselves of their baby instead of having a safe and legal abortion. If you believe that abortion is morally wrong, then all you have to do is practice your beliefs. You should not be forcing your own beliefs upon other people who do not share them. Just because abortions are legal does not mean YOU have to get one, and if it isn’t your situation to judge then you should not be trying to play God.
