Is Jon Huntsman the Next John McCain?

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Ambassador Jon Huntsman

In the race to see who will challenge President Barack Obama next year, Republican primary voters are being told by the mainstream media to consider former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman. He’s good looking, mild mannered and a well accomplished businessman and politician. But before conservatives get lost in the media’s swoon for another political maverick, a closer look at his record reveals a candidate who will be unreliable if elected.

To the extent Main Street America is familiar with Huntsman, it is likely to be with his abrupt departure as President Barack Obama’s Ambassador to China. In early January, Huntsman gave an interview to Newsweek, where he all but announced the intention to challenge his boss for the presidency. By the end of April, Huntsman had resigned his position and assembled a campaign team. As of last week, he completed a five-day swing through New Hampshire, site of the first presidential primary in 2012.

Betrayed! Tea Party Politicians Vote To Renew The Patriot Act

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

For a moment, imagine that you are awakened one night by a heavily-armed team of federal agents dressed in all black breaking into your home. As you confront them, they hand you a piece of paper that says that your son has been identified as a “terrorist” and that they are there to take him away. They pull your son out of bed, they throw him on the floor and the use a taser on him repeatedly. Then they handcuff him and haul him away without telling you a thing about where they are taking him. Your son suddenly has no rights because the Patriot Act supersedes the U.S. Constitution. That’s right – because your son has been identified as a “terrorist” because of something that he has said on the Internet he no longer has any constitutional rights. Your underage son is held indefinitely and is subjected to “enhanced interrogation” because he has been identified as a “threat”. You are not able to get your son back for years even though it turns out that he is completely and totally innocent. If you think that such a thing cannot happen to you then you are a fool, because this kind of thing is happening over and over across the United States and it is all legal because of the Patriot Act.

America is rapidly turning into a horrible Big Brother police state and most of our politicians are fully supporting this transformation. In fact, the U.S. House of Representatives gave us quite a Valentine’s Day gift the other day when it voted to once again extend provisions of the Patriot Act that allow for domestic surveillance of American citizens, wire tapping of American citizens and warrantless searches of the homes of American citizens.

What was perhaps most disappointing was that a large number of “Tea Party politicians” cast votes in favor of renewing the Patriot Act provisions.

Elton Gallegly calls Obama’s immigration meeting ‘summit on amnesty’

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

By Michael Collins

“I don’t think anyone was invited who was interested in stopping illegal immigration,” Gallegly said.

WASHINGTON — Rep. Elton Gallegly said Tuesday that a White House meeting between President Barack Obama and people who want to overhaul the nation’s immigration system was really just “a summit on amnesty.”

“The list of people he had there were obviously people who were not concerned about stopping illegal immigration,” the Simi Valley Republican said.

Obama and several administration officials met Tuesday with about 70 people who want to change immigration laws in what the White House described as an effort to foster “a constructive national conversation” on immigration reform.

The guest list, a diverse group of elected officials and religious, business, labor and civil rights leader, included former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti, the Rev. Al Sharpton and former Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez.

Several told reporters afterward that Obama assured them he would continue pushing for a new immigration policy. Garcetti said Obama also indicated he would press for a vote on a bill to help certain undocumented immigrants attain legal status if they attend college or serve in the military.

Boehner Turns Shutdown Tables on Dems

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

Senate Democrats thought they had House Republicans cornered on a government shutdown.

Media reports had established the White House and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid as being in support of a plan to meet the hot House halfway to its proposed 4 percent reduction in the $1.65 trillion deficit projected for the current fiscal year.

“But, but…” House Republicans sputtered. But the Democrats cuts rely on some accounting gimmicks! But the plan doesn’t include specific instructions to take the money from controversial programs, like the $300 million annual subsidy for Planned Parenthood, the nation’s leading provider of abortions. But the Senate hasn’t even passed a bill – none of it is in writing.

But nothing. By the time you get past “agreed to meet halfway” on a fiscal compromise, the rest becomes kind of white noise for most news consumers. It’s boring stuff and folks tune out quickly on minute detail. House Republicans were losing the message war and were heading into a calendar squeeze play.

House votes to defund National Public Radio

Saturday, March 26th, 2011

The House voted 228 to 192 to defund National Public Radio. H.R. 1076 would also prevent funding for NPR content.

Jeff Flake—who is trying to be a Republican in light of his run for Arizona’s vacated Senate seat—was not among the seven Republicans voting against the measure.

Federal funding includes Grants, Loans, Property, Cooperative agreements, and Direct appropriations. NPR has been the target of accusations of liberal bias of late.

The legislation will have difficulty, at best, of passing the Democratic-held-hostage Senate and will probably be vetoed by a strapped-for-cash Obama administration.

The House, also, has an eye on the National Endowment for the Arts. Liberals might argue that it might be protected under Article I, Section 8, Clause 8, because they do not read it as written. The Constitution provides Congress the power to secure, “…for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries.” In other words, the Congress has the authority to protect private authors and inventors investment in time and money. This is done by Copyright and Patent laws. It does not include monetary investment at the expense of the taxpayers.

When asked, former President Thomas Jefferson said, “To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”

I guess you don’t mess with Juan Williams.

Pacyderm Coalition issues “report card” for Arizona Legislators

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

An Arizona group, known as the Pacyderm Coalition, issued a “report card” on the 2011 session of

Over 90 is a Reagan Republican.
Over 75 is a Pro-Freedom Republican.
Over 50 is a Republican.
Over 25 is Jimmy Carter.
Over 0 is a Barrack Obama.
Zero or less is a RINO (Republican In Name Only).

{Just kidding. Their actual scores end:
Over 25 is a Big Government Republican.
Over 0 is a Bipartisan Republican.
Zero or less is a RINO (Republican In Name Only).}

There are seven Senators with a “Reagan Republican” rating according to their grading system.

1 Gail Griffin of district 25 scored 99.5
2 Russell Pearce of district 18 scored 96.2
3 Frank Antenori of legislative district 30 scored
96.1
4 Rick Murphy of district 9 scored 95.3
5 Steve Smith of district 23 scored 94.2
6 Andy Biggs of district 22 scored a 93.7
7 Sylvia Allen of district 5 scored a 90.6 finalizing the list of Reagan Republican

The list is followed by eleven legislators that rate pro-freedom Republican and ends with three Republicans. The lowest grade was John McComish of district 20 with a grade of 62.2.

Of the representatives, there are only three Reagan Republicans, according to their web site; Judy Burges of district 4 with a score of 94.2, Carl Seel of district 6 with a score of 91.7, and lastly David Burnell Smith of district 7 with a score of 90.7.

Their list ends with three “Big Government Republicans.” Vic Williams of district 26, Russ Jones of district 24 and Nancy McLain of district 3.

Of course, Jan Brewer is not graded, but should receive, at least, the big government Republican honors for pushing to get taxes raised instead of pushing out government programs.

The site also has a list of legislation and their affects on the grades.

Some Arizona legislators want right to reject federal laws

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

By Karoun Demirjian
Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011 | 8:01 p.m.

Man up, Arizona.

Our neighbor to the east is considering a measure to secede from the United States. But only sort of.

Members of the Arizona state Legislature, led by their Senate president, Russell Pearce, have proposed a bill that would allow it to create a 12-member committee that could decide where and when the federal government’s laws apply to them — as in, if Arizona doesn’t feel like cooperating with a particular piece of the law, they can vote to say to Washington: make me.

The law, SB1433, would by its own content require the committee to work within the confines of what is determined to be constitutional, but if the issue at hand is not specifically mentioned in the Constitution, it’s fair game.

“The committee may review all existing federal statutes, mandates, and executive orders for the purpose of determining their constitutionality,” the bill reads, stating that the committee “shall recommend, propose, and call for a vote by simple majority to nullify in its entirety” anything that they find objectionable. That kills it for sixty days, in which time the full Legislature has to decide whether it wants to do away with the unwanted law for keeps.

So why would Arizona be doing this now?

Senate Bill S. 91 defines life at conception

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

S. 91 and companion House legislation H. 374 to the 112th Congress would provide 14th Amendment protection to the pre-born.

Republican Senator Roger F. Wicker of Mississippi and Republican Representative Duncan D. Hunter of California have submitted legislation with identical language that would provide “…equal protection under the 14th article of amendment to the Constitution for the right to life of each born and preborn human person.”

The bill cites the power of Congress granted under Article I, Section 8, the last clause which states, “To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof” as the authority for the bill.

Liberals will probably be quick to point out that no where in Section 8 of Article I does it give Congress the duty or right to protect the unborn. Pete Singer is reported to have expressed the belief that killing babies up to about twenty-weeks should be legal.

This is from a lack of understanding that the Constitution was intended to ensure the natural rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness expressed in the Declaration of Independence. Thus it does fall into the category of “…all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States,…”

The bill defines Humans as, “(1) HUMAN PERSON; HUMAN BEING- The terms ‘human person’ and ‘human being’ include each and every member of the species homo sapiens at all stages of life, including, but not limited to, the moment of fertilization, cloning, and other moment at which an individual member of the human species comes into being.”

The bill would effectively outlaw abortion.

GOP: Defeat of Health Law Repeal Is Step Toward Victory in 2012

GOP: Defeat of Health Law Repeal Is Step Toward Victory in 2012

WASHINGTON — To hear Senate Republicans tell it, the defeat of their attempt to repeal the Democrats’ health care overhaul was really a victory of sorts on the long the march to the 2012 congressional and presidential elections.

The repeal effort sank Wednesday along party lines, 51-47 as expected. But in the process, Republicans forced Democrats on the record in favor of President Barack Obama’s signature overhaul and launched what they described as a two-year effort to discredit it in the lead-up to a bid for a second term.

“These are the first steps in a long road that will culminate in 2012, whereby we will expose the flaws and the weaknesses in this legislation,” said Texas Sen. John Cornyn, the party’s campaign chief.

Can Our Nation Be Saved?

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

Walter E. Williams
Townhall

National debt is over $14 trillion, the federal budget deficit is $1.4 trillion and, depending on whose estimates are used, the unfunded liability or indebtedness of the federal government (mostly in the form of obligations for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and prescription drugs) is estimated to be between $60 and $100 trillion.

Those entitlements along with others account for nearly 60 percent of federal spending. They are what Congress calls mandatory or non-discretionary spending. Then there’s discretionary spending, half of which is for national defense. Each year, non-discretionary spending consumes a higher and higher percent of the federal budget.

The spending path that Congress has chosen for the last half-century is unsustainable and will end up with economic collapse but little or nothing can be done about it unless I’m grossly wrong about the American people. Americans who detest our country and those who love our country are hell-bent, wittingly or unwittingly, on destroying it.

You say, “Williams, that’s not only insulting but shows little trust as well. Explain yourself!”

Many Russians here aligning with Republicans

Sunday, January 16th, 2011

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Many Russian immigrants to the “red borough” of Staten Island are flocking to the Republican Party, saying that the national Democrats’ “socialistic” policies remind them too much of the top-down oligarchy they fled in their native land.

With many of the borough’s Russian arrivees already owning businesses and active in civic organizations, their muscle could help the Island GOP solidify electoral gains made this year, when the party took back congressional and Assembly seats.

Businessman Arkadiy Fridman said that the newly formed Citizens Magazine Business Club, a confederation of more than 50 Russian-owned businesses here and in Brooklyn, has aligned itself with the Molinari Republican Club (MRC) in an effort to increase the Russian community’s political and economic clout.

GOP activists: Dems’ filibuster repeal could actually help undo Obamacare

Monday, January 10th, 2011

By John Rossomando – The Daily Caller

Democrats could unintentionally make it easier to repeal the president’s health care reform law if they go ahead with plans to change the filibuster rule, according to senior GOP activists.

The proposal being introduced by New Mexico Democratic Sen. Tom Udall and Oregon Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley would end the use of secret holds to block debate in the Senate and would require senators to openly carry on their filibusters on the Senate floor. Other options being discussed in the Democratic caucus include holding a vote to allow a filibuster — instead of a vote to end one — and limiting its use.

“The political advantage of such a change is mixed at best and might even favor the Republicans in the short term,” said Bill Wichterman, who has worked as a top aide to former President George W. Bush and former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist. “The question is whether this is good for the nation, and that is a decided no.”

Vermont drafts food sovereignty resolution to protect health, food freedom

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

(NaturalNews) In response to the recent passage of “food safety” bills S. 510 and corresponding H.R. 2751, the Vermont Coalition for Food Sovereignty has drafted its own resolution called “The Vermont Resolution for Food Sovereignty.” Crafted to declare and protect the food and health freedom rights of all Vermont citizens, the resolution is essentially a warning to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that it does not have jurisdiction over the food choices of the People of Vermont.

The resolution declares that food freedom is a “fundamental prerequisite to life,” and that individuals have every right to save seeds, grow what they wish, and buy and sell the fruits of their labor without interference from an over-zealous, tyrannical government. And if any federal official tries to infringe on these rights, the People “shall resist any and all” of them.

House Republican Introduces Bill to Block FCC’s Internet Grab

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN-7) introduced legislation Wednesday to deny the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulatory oversight over the Internet, which the Tennessee Republican insisted was the “sole prerogative of Congress” to administer.

“I agree that the Internet faces a number of challenge, ” Blackburn said in a release. “Only Congress can address those challenges without compounding them. Until we do, the FCC and other federal bureaucracies should keep their hands off the ‘net.”

According to Rep. Blackburn’s office, the “Internet Freedom Act” has the support of more than 60 House members, including a majority of GOP’ers on the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

The text for H.R. 96, has not been received by the GPO web site, but the latest title is To prohibit the Federal Communications Commission from further regulating the Internet.

Representative Cliff Stearns (R-FL-6) has introduced H.R. 166, To prohibit the Federal Communications Commission from regulating information services or Internet access services absent a market failure, and for other purposes. The text for this legislation, also, has not yet been provided to the GPO for publication, so it is difficult to assess what “other purposes” the bill could be for.
