Support for Second Amendment at Record High

It’s bad news for gun-grabbers and other enemies of the Second Amendment – only 26% of respondents to a recent poll believe the government should ban handguns.

The poll is part of Gallup’s annual Crime poll, conducted Oct. 6-9. This year’s poll finds support for a number of gun-control measures at historical lows, including the ban on handguns, which is Gallup’s longest continuing gun-control trend, according to their website.

Gallup notes that the acceptance of gun ownership is not related to crime.

“In 2008, Gallup found widespread agreement with the idea that the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right of Americans to own guns. Americans may also be moving toward more libertarian views in some areas, one example of which is greater support for legalizing marijuana use,” Gallup reports.

Obama and Napalitano: Border is not secure

Saturday, May 14th, 2011

Obama’s lies are, of course, affecting Democrats, but just barely. Only 51% of his mass believe the border is secure. Recently this Obama renewed his call for amnesty. He called for keeping illegals to fill jobs Americans should be doing.

This, of course, was his plan upon passing Obamacare to ensure he punishes real Americans more by adding an overload into the health care system to finish its destruction.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 30% of Likely U.S. Voters think the U.S. border with Mexico is even somewhat secure, while 64% disagree and say it is not secure. These results include only three percent (3%) who say the U.S.-Mexico border is Very Secure and 29% who believe it’s Not At All Secure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Fifty-one percent (51%) of Democrats say the border is secure. Eighty-six percent (86%) of Republicans and 65% of voters not affiliated with either of the major parties disagree.

This could be why only 23% of likely voters have a favorable view of the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Janet Napalitano. Recently she has been in Saudi Arabia to discuss the security of their border and former to that in Afghanistan.

“Napolitano has since been criticized for controversial airport security measures and what many feel is a half-hearted effort to stop illegal immigration. The president in the same speech in which he praised the Homeland Security secretary encouraged Congress to move forward on immigration reform, saying his administration has ‘strengthened border security beyond what many believed was possible’,” Rasmussen Reports said.

Obama is banking on the illegal vote to bolster his failed popularity during his Presidency.

48% Say Their Views Closer to Tea Party Than Congress

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

Forty-five percent (45%) say the average Tea Party member has a better understanding of the problems America faces today than the average member of Congress does. That figure is down seven points from a year ago. Still, today only 31% think the average member of Congress has a better understanding. Twenty-three percent (23%) are undecided.

In the ongoing budget-cutting debate in Washington, some congressional Democrats have accused their Republican opponents of being held captive by the Tea Party movement, but voters like the Tea Party more than Congress.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 48% of Likely U.S. Voters say when it comes to the major issues facing the country, their views are closer to the average Tea Party member as opposed to the average member of Congress. Just 22% say their views are closest to those of the average congressman. Even more (30%) aren’t sure.

Few Americans see Obama as strong military leader

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

(Reuters) – Only 17 percent of Americans see President Barack Obama as a strong and decisive military leader, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll taken after the United States and its allies began bombing Libya.

Nearly half of those polled view Obama as a cautious and consultative commander-in-chief and more than a third see him as indecisive in military matters.

Obama was widely criticized in 2009 for his months-long consultations with senior aides and military chiefs on whether to send more troops to Afghanistan. Critics called it dithering, but he said such a big decision required careful deliberation. He eventually dispatched 30,000 more troops.

But Obama is facing mounting discontent among opposition Republicans and from within his own Democratic Party over the fuzzy aims of the U.S.-led mission in Libya and the lack of a clearly spelled-out exit strategy for U.S. forces.

If the Libya mission becomes a foreign policy mess, mixed with perceptions Obama is a weak military leader, it could spell trouble for him in the 2012 presidential election.

Independents largely side with Republicans in denouncing big government

A recent Gallup Poll reveals what the Libertarian Tea Party movement expressed before being hijacked by the Republican Party corporate media. Big government—Obamacare, Medicare, Social Security, the Federal Reserve, FBI, Patriot Act, etc.—are all unconstitutional and wrong. The Gallup organization now reveals that regular old non-terrorist are coming to the same conclusion.

The Gallup Poll reveals that 59% of Americans feel the government has too much power rising 8 points from last year. 58% believe that the government is doing too much that should be left to the individual and businesses.

Reading the Constitution, one would know that the powers granted to the government are actually limited. Congress, however, during the Wilson administration started destroying the country by giving control of our wealth to a cabal of private bankers. Franklin Roosevelt started the government grab of industry and control the the “rights” that they spoon out to the people.

Distrust in U.S. Media Edges Up to Record High

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Perceptions of liberal bias still far outnumber perceptions of conservative bias

Lower-income Americans and those with less education are generally more likely to trust the media than are those with higher incomes and more education.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — For the fourth straight year, the majority of Americans say they have little or no trust in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately, and fairly. The 57% who now say this is a record high by one percentage point.

The 43% of Americans who, in Gallup’s annual Governance poll, conducted Sept. 13-16, 2010, express a great deal or fair amount of trust ties the record low, and is far worse than three prior Gallup readings on this measure from the 1970s.

Trust in the media is now slightly higher than the record-low trust in the legislative branch but lower than trust in the executive and judicial branches of government, even though trust in all three branches is down sharply this year. These findings also further confirm a separate Gallup poll that found little confidence in newspapers and television specifically.

23% Say U.S. Government Has the Consent of the Governed

Friday, July 16th, 2010

The notion that governments derive their only just authority from the consent of the governed is a foundational principle of the American experiment.

However, a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 23% of voters nationwide believe the federal government today has the consent of the governed. Sixty-two percent (62%) say it does not, and 15% are not sure.

These figures have barely budged since February.

Presidential Tracking Poll

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that 28% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-four percent (44%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -16 (see trends).

Forty-seven percent (47%) still blame today’s economic problems on the recession that began during the presidency of George W. Bush. But now 45% say they’re due to the policies of President Obama.

The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update). Updates are also available on Twitter and Facebook.

Overall, 43% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the president’s performance. Fifty-seven percent (57%) disapprove.

Check out our review of last week’s key polls to see “What They Told Us.”

In his new book, Scott Rasmussen observes, “Most of us have come to believe that the political system is broken, that most politicians are corrupt, and that neither major political party has the answers. Some of us are ready to give up and some of us are ready to scream a little louder. But all of us believe we can do better.

This, of course, shows how the Federal Reserve guards its secrets better than the CIA. No one thought to ask what they thought the role of the Federal Reserve might be in the economy since the Congress gave up its enumerated duty to them.

People favor policies to discourage fossil fuels, but don’t want to pay for it.

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

Americans believe strongly that the United States needs to change its dependency on fossil fuels, but they have mixed feelings about whether government policies should encourage use of alternative energy sources in their place.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 73% of Adults believe it is at least Somewhat Important for the country to change its dependency on fossil fuels like coal, gas and oil in the near future. This includes 42% who say it’s Very Important.

Just 23% say this change is Not Very or Not At All Important.

Forty-one percent (41%) say government policies should be enacted to discourage use of fossil fuels and encourage the use of alternative energy sources instead. But 36% don’t think that’s a good idea. Another 23% are not sure.

This is in contrast to the advise of Thomas Jefferson who wrote, “The policy of the American government is to leave its citizens free, neither restraining them nor aiding them in their pursuits.” In our Capitalist tradition, the people “voted” for or against various products and prices by casting their ballot at the checkout stand.
