Arizona vetoes as of today.

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

These are the bills, thus far, vetoed by Governor Jan Brewer. Governor Brewer currently has over 160 bills on her desk that she has until May 2nd to act upon.

HB 2177 presidential candidates; qualifications; affidavit
Requires a presidential candidate that is for running for office to prove their eligibility to run and hold office by providing documentation that proves citizenship, age and if the candidate meets residency requirements.

Would have required the filing of an affidavit with appropriate proof attached. Brewer objected to “Christian” and “Jewish” materials being part of the proof requirement.

H.B. 2338 special districts; secondary levy limits
Would have put a cap on secondary property tax levels by cities and counties. Now they can charge pretty much what they want. A tax limit on any property tax is not only appropriate, but needed.

The Gun Control in ObamaCare

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

Sections 1501 and 1502 of HR 3590 — which contain the so-called “individual mandate” — require Americans to buy government-approved insurance and give the government carte blanche to require that these policies contain requirements like Barack Obama’s oft-stated goal of computerizing medical records in a national database. (Indeed, Fox News reported on March 26, 2010, that under the new federal health care law, our medical records will soon go online to be available to all doctors.)

This would make it impossible for Americans to keep private, medical information out of the government-controlled medical database that was created under Sec. 13001 of the stimulus bill. Once a person’s medical information has been put into the database, then the ATF and the FBI will be able to use it to deny law-abiding Americans their right to purchase firearms — just like the thousands of military veterans who have been denied their right to purchase firearms.

The problem with the veterans began in 1999, when under the direction of the Clinton administration, the Department of Veteran Affairs was obliged to share certain mental health records with the FBI for the purpose of adding names to the national instant check system (NICS). People whose names are added to NICS, of course, are not allowed to purchase or possess firearms.

The health records in question had to do with persons the VA had deemed “mental defectives.” Since 1968, persons so adjudicated have been prohibited from possessing firearms. For decades, the common understating of “metal defective” applied to people found not guilty of a crime by reason of insanity. In 1999, however, the Clinton Justice Department unilaterally decided to greatly expand the definition to include the VA’s very broad use of the term.

After ATF Blows Deadline, Issa Issues Subpoena for Project Gunrunner Papers

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011

Republican Rep. Darrell Issa fired off a subpoena Friday to the Justice Department agency in the middle of a cross-border gun sales operation that has been blamed for a massive flow of arms to Mexican drug cartels and possibly the death of a U.S. border agent.

Issa, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, demanded the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives provide him documents related to “Project Gunrunner” after the agency failed to respond to questions by a Wednesday deadline.

ATF gunwalking scandal: Second agent speaks out

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

ATF allegedly encouraged U.S. gun sales to Mexican drug traffickers — Now there’s evidence other agencies knew about program

By Sharyl Attkisson

(CBS News) WASHINGTON - South of El Paso, Texas, on Mexico’s side of the border, lies Juarez – the most dangerous city in the world. CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports ATF Special Agent Rene Jaquez has been stationed there for the past year, trying to keep U.S. guns from being trafficked into Mexico.

“That’s what we do as an agency,” Jaquez said. “ATF’s primary mission is to make sure that we curtail gun trafficking.”

That’s why Jaquez tells CBS News he was so alarmed to hear his own agency may have done the opposite: encouraged U.S. gun dealers to sell to suspected traffickers for Mexico’s drug cartels. Apparently, ATF hoped that letting weapons “walk” onto the street – to see where they’d end up – would help them take down a cartel.

Jaquez is so opposed to the strategy, he’s speaking out. “You don’t let guns walk. I’ve never let a gun walk.”

Kawliforna admits gun control does not work.

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

Sen. Lou Correa of Santa Ana, voted for a Galgiani bill last year prohibiting the carrying of even unloaded firearms in the state Capitol. (Don Kelsen / Los Angeles Times)

The Guardian reports that California politicians are demanding the right to carry concealed weapons and have submitted legislation on the matter.

“Politicians in California say their working lives are now so dangerous that they should be given special dispensation to carry concealed guns to their offices in order to protect themselves,” the article states.

The bill, SB 610, was introduced—now get this—by two Democrats and a Republican. And while peons must, apparently, show good cause to get a concealed carry permit, legislatures and congressmen need only get elected. California tax payers, as I read the bill, will have to pick up the tab for the cost of their concealed carry permit.

The bill is submitted in response to the shooting of Gabrielle Giffords in Tuscon in January.

The Guardian article adds, “Even in Arizona itself, where the Giffords shooting took place, there are 16 bills pending, most of which favour the gun owner rather than the potential victims of gun outrages.

“One potentially significant shift in the other direction is that President Barack Obama appears to be moving towards tightening gun controls by making background checks on purchasers more stringent.”

Wonder if—maybe, I don’t know—following the Constitution might put their lives at a little less risk.

Tony Windsor doesn’t get the message.

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Apparently, those damn Tea Party members over in the United States are spreading vitriol all over Australia. Really? How did they get through TSA? Isn’t the Australian T.E.A. Party doing their jobs?

In fact, they are.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports, “Mr [Tony] Windsor [Minister of Parliament, or MP in Australia] said there were some ‘points of commonality’, to the debate over the rhetoric of the Tea Party movement in the United States.”

The Australian T.E.A. Party web site states that the TEA Party is, “A worldwide movement, united for Free Markets, Fiscal Responsibility, Constitutionally Limited Small Governments and Individual Freedom.”

So, yes, the TEA Party has a common goal. It is the supposed goal of the Republican Party in America, the PATRIOT act notwithstanding. But apparently, political science is way above his head. Or he is an elitist. The goal, Mr. Windsor, is freedom and liberty. Do you have a problem with that?

Windsor gives the U.S. TEA Party too much credit. Apparently, his own people can see that a tax based on a false science is tyranny. In the United States, it can only be considered valid with a generous twisting of the words of the Constitution of the United States of America. Since the “tax” is to be paid to the United Nations, it is totally unconstitutional.

In 1850, when France was fast moving to become the first Communist Empire, Claude Frédéric Bastiat wrote a treatise to his countryman, concerning the matter, called The Law. In this plea from this dying man, he wrote:

“And does not experience prove this? Look at the entire world. Which countries contain the most peaceful, the most moral, and the happiest people? Those people are found in the countries where the law least interferes with private affairs; where government is least felt; where the individual has the greatest scope, and free opinion the greatest influence; where administrative powers are fewest and simplest; where taxes are lightest and most nearly equal, and popular discontent the least excited and the least justifiable; where individuals and groups most actively assume their responsibilities, and, consequently, where the morals of admittedly imperfect human beings are constantly improving; where trade, assemblies, and associations are the least restricted; where labor, capital, and populations suffer the fewest forced displacements; where mankind most nearly follows its own natural inclinations; where the inventions of men are most nearly in harmony with the laws of God; in short, the happiest, most moral, and most peaceful people are those who most nearly follow this principle: Although mankind is not perfect, still, all hope rests upon the free and voluntary actions of persons within the limits of right; law or force is to be used for nothing except the administration of universal justice.”

He was a French TEA Party member spreading vitriol. The “vitriol” that he was spreading was that the only purpose of law was to maintain the right to protect oneself, their property and their liberty. That is, also, a collective right of the people (not the National Guard). There is no natural right for a person to attack the right of life, liberty or property of another person, according to this treatise. Therefore, there is no collective right, even legislatively, to attack the right of life, liberty or property. It is a central principle of the works of John Locke and a principle which was used in the writing of the Declaration of Independence. That is the point of the American TEA Party, even though—for the most part—it has been construed to mean Republican party. I’m pretty sure, from reading the Australian T.E.A. Party web site, it is central to their thinking.

According to the Sydney Herald article, Mr. Windsor said, “Just remember you could be responsible for driving someone that’s got a slight degree of mental illness to something that they wouldn’t normally do.”

You mean, like voting for a carbon tax based on false science?

I guess, since the NRA showed video of the Australian government melting down all the guns they stole from the citizens, they will now have to make a law keeping slingshots, pies and other dangerous weapons at least a thousand-yards from any politician.

This whole concept Bastiat calls legal plunder. The point is, Mr. Windsor, that the people of the United States are sick of this legal plunder. We are sick of being forced into communist unions to work instead of the free association of men. We are sick of giving paychecks to those who do not want to work or those who are here illegally. We are sick of the government taking away our RIGHT to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness.

I think the message, Mr. Windsor, it that your people are too.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie Commutes Sentence of Man Sent to Jail for Owning Guns Legally

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

“I don’t think there are words yet invented that could characterize the — I guess anger would be one word, but it’s a lot deeper than anger,” he told FoxNews.com this month. “Whatever the word is that’s a combination of anger, shock, disbelief, horror and a desire to expose all of this — that’s the word.

A man given seven years in prison after being found with two guns he purchased legally in Colorado has had his sentence commuted, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie announced Monday.

The case of Brian Aitken, 27, had become a cause célèbre among gun-rights advocates. On Jan. 2, 2009, Aitken, an entrepreneur and media consultant with no prior criminal record, muttered to his mother that life wasn’t worth living after a planned visit with son was abruptly canceled at the last minute. Aitken then left his mother’s home in Mount Laurel as she called police, who later found two locked and unloaded handguns in the trunk of his car.

New Jersey man serving 7 years for guns he owned legally

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

By JASON NARK
Philadelphia Daily News

EVERYTHING Brian Aitken was or had worked for was wiped away one winter afternoon after his mother called the police on him.

Separated from his wife, the entrepreneur and media consultant, now 27, had moved back home to New Jersey from Colorado toward the end of 2008 to be closer to their young son.

In between jobs, his well-oiled life was running ragged, and on Jan. 2, 2009, when his ex canceled his visit with their son, he became distraught, muttered something to his mother, and left his parents’ home in Mount Laurel, N.J.

“He said something that scared her, things that a guy will only say to his mom, like . . . ‘Life’s not worth living anymore,’ ” said Larry Aitken, Brian’s father.

Sue Aitken, a trained social worker, decided to play it safe and called police, but she hung up before the 9-1-1 dispatcher could answer. Police traced the call and showed up anyway, and found two handguns in the trunk of Brian’s car. And now Brian, her middle child, a graduate student with no prior criminal record, is serving a seven-year prison sentence for weapons charges.

Pinal Sheriff Needs Donations To Arm Deputies

Sheriff Paul Babeu Says His Deputies Are Outgunned

PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. — Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said his deputies are outmanned and outgunned when it comes to battling drug cartels.

The Pinal County Justice Foundation is asking the public to donate money so that they can equip deputies with rifles.

Babeu said the guns purchased with donations would go to first responders. The sheriff said they need to raise $150,000.

A CBS 5 News investigation last November revealed the Mexican drug cartel relies heavily on smugglers from Arizona to stockpile their arsenal. That arsenal, officials said, is used in gun battles along the border.
